The Bike is a motorcycle in Grand Theft Auto 1, Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 and Grand Theft Auto: London 1961 and a pedal bicycle in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

    Design

    2D Universe

Although the Bike in Grand Theft Auto 1 and GTA London resembles a chopper-style bike, it is unclear what real life vehicle it resembles. The Bike is one of the two-wheeled vehicles featured, along with the Superbike.

    Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

The Bike returns in the 3D Universe changed from its first appearance, now resembling a traditional bicycle. It mostly resembles the Schwinn Stingray "chopper" style of bicycle introduced in the mid-sixties, but the up tube and downtube are closer to a those of a Schwinn Fair Lady. It also features a decal on the side on a chain cap reading "Jameson-Jet", suggesting its real name. There is also a decal with a "J" on the head tube. The bike cannot be destroyed.

    Performance

    2D Universe

The Bike has a decent top speed, acceleration and handling, although its grip is somewhat lacking. As expected from a motorbike in Grand Theft Auto 1, the Bike is capable of moving up staircases, and violent crashes will dismount the player. Strangely, if the player jumps off of the bike while they are accelerating, there is a chance that the Bike will continue driving itself - it will even turn corners on its own.

The GTA London renditions of the Bike is, in effect, the same vehicle as the one in GTA 1 in terms of design and performance. However, whereas the Bike is second behind the other motorbike in GTA 1, the Superbike, the Bike in GTA London is the best motorbike in the games as the Superbike's replacement, the Mod Scooter, features far less desirable performance.

    Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

The Bike has moderate speed, moderate stunt ability, and since it serves as the middle-bike between the BMX and the Mountain Bike, as the Bike has features from both the BMX and Mountain Bike balanced out. Even though it seems to have a large seat, only one person can fit on it.

    • The Bike has the lowest base export value of $100 (in mint condition).

    Glitches

Attempting to fire a RPG at the bike (along with the BMX and Mountain Bike) and blowing it up will result in the player catching on fire. Similarly, attempting to do the same with the Hydra will result in the aircraft being damaged and blown up.

A Mountain Bike in GTA San Andreas.

"On the west coast, you’re not only judged by your car, but also by your expensive exercise gear. A bicycle that costs $10,000? Why not? Delude yourself in tight shorts and tap shoes while yelling at pedestrians for getting in your way." ―GTA V Website

"Southern San Andreas practically invented the art of turning ordinary transportation options into ways to maim yourself while showing off. Bicycle Motocross or BMX is a great way to make the urban landscape your playground. Just don't be surprised when people post video of you faceplanting off a flight of stairs." ―GTA V Website

Bicycles are pedal-driven two-wheeled vehicles that appear in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories and Grand Theft Auto V. Bunny hops can be performed on a bicycle. The player can fall off a bicycle if the player collides with enough force.

The mountain bike in GTA V.

GTA San Andreas introduced the pedal bicycle to the Grand Theft Auto series. The player can increase Carl Johnson's cycling skill through long rides on bicycles or on the stationary bike at the Gyms. The higher the skill, the less chance Carl will fall off the bicycle, the higher he can bunny-hop, and the more responsive the bicycle is. When pedaling on a bike, when you perform a wheelie, you can reach a higher top speed. Bicycles are known to be completely indestructible. RPGs, grenades, molotovs, and vehicular explosions do not harm the bike in any way. Although, if any of these happen while the player is riding a bicycle, he will die.

In GTA San Andreas, because of a glitch, any bike will catch fire and explode if it somehow ends up resting upside down. This is a very difficult task to achieve, however, because the bike will almost never stay standing upside down for more than a few seconds.

In GTA V, bicycles make a return with realistic aspects and there are more bicycles than previous Grand Theft Auto games. Therefore, they are no longer considered invincible and can be destroyed by colliding with a vehicle at high speeds, or being blown up by explosives.

      Trivia

      • In Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Grand Theft Auto V, pedestrians can be seen riding bicycles. In Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, however, only the protagonist will ride a bicycle.
      • Bicycles cannot be resprayed at Pay 'n' Spray in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. If the player rides a bicycle into a Pay 'n' Spray, they will receive an "I don't do toys!" message. However, in GTA Vice City Stories, the player can go to the pay n' spray normally and the message will still say "new engine and paintjob".
      • In GTA Online, bicycles cannot be insured, therefore if a player's bicycle is destroyed, it can not be recovered. In addition, the Mechanic does not deliver bikes nor recover them for the player.
      • In GTA V, if the player activates the invincibility cheat, and rides near enough to an explosion to cause the wheels to fly off, the player can remain on the bike and continue to ride it as it skids around. However, it will possess extremely unresponsive handling, and will be very slow.
      • Unlike Motorcycles, bicycles do not feature a radio. Even in GTA Online, where the player can buy headphones, they are still unable to listen to music.

Motorcycles | GTA Wiki | FANDOM powered by Wikia

      NRG-900 from GTA IV.

Motorcycles are two-wheeled motor vehicles that have appeared in all Grand Theft Auto games with the exception of Grand Theft Auto 2, Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto Advance. Other names and types associated to motorcycles in GTA include motorbicycle, motorbike, bike, crotch rocket, moped, and chopper. Quadbikes are included in this group, even though they have 4 wheels, instead of two. Motorcycles are smaller than most vehicles in the game. They are small and narrow enough to travel in places where larger vehicles normally cannot fit, and usually have much better handling and are very "nimble". Since Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, the player can perform a forward drive-by while on any motorcycle. The downside of riding motorcycles is that, without a protective cage, the player can be ejected from the motorcycle during collisions and is prone to damage from gunfire. Getting busted is much easier as the cops do not have to open a door. Reversing on a motorcycle requires the character to use their feet to reverse (except for the Quadbike).

In Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the player can increase the Bike Skill of Carl Johnson, either through long rides on motorcycles or lessons in the Bike School. The higher the skill, the less chance Carl will fall off the motorcycle and the more responsive the motorcycle is.

In Grand Theft Auto IV, The Ballad of Gay Tony, and Grand Theft Auto V, the player character will automatically put on a helmet if left idle for a few seconds. Some mission-specific characters will wear unique helmets not seen anywhere else in the game.

        Trivia

        • One slight inaccuracy in the operation of motorcycles in GTA IV is that when the player answers his cell phone while driving the bike he uses his right hand which in reality would disable his ability to accelerate as the throttle is located on that side. Yet the player is somehow still able to operate and accelerate the bike while talking on the phone.
        • Another inaccuracy is that in real life, only touring motorcycles with a front fairing have built-in radio whereas in the Grand Theft Auto Series, all motorcycles do. Using this theory, the Wayfarer in GTA San Andreas and the WinterGreen in GTA Vice City Stories would be the only bikes that accurately have a radio.
        • In all GTA games up to GTA IV, the handlebars don't move when the player turns the front wheel. However, this is fixed in the Episodic Content.
        • In GTA: San Andreas, when the player has a recruited Grove Street Families gang member and gets on a motorcycle, sometimes the passenger will call out "Shotgun" to sit in the front seat, but he can only get on the back. This proves the same dialogue is used for both cars and motorcycles in the game.
        • According to the Liberty Tree themed instructions manual in Liberty City Stories, due to their dangerous nature bikes were being voted to be banned off the streets of Liberty City during the time LCS is set. This might be the story-wise explanation for the lack of bikes in Grand Theft Auto Advance and Grand Theft Auto III.
        • In Grand Theft Auto IV and V, the Police can easily ram the player off the motorcycle, making driving a motorcycle with a Wanted Level in either game very dangerous and risky. In Grand Theft Auto V, if the LSPD/Sheriffs knock the player off a motorbike, they will instantly be Wasted a good majority of the time.
